Good evening from Northern Italy!!
I need to encrypt my disk with LUCKS. I can’t do it from the partitioning program. Can you help me?
Thanks a lot.
Hi @Kadarin70 , hope you’re doing well. Greetings from Argentina!
At the moment, Calamares installer is not working properly with luks encryption, as well LVM.
We will publish in the next few days a manual setup guide for LVM, in order to later install Synex on it from Calamares. By the other side, we’ve some preliminary tests with luks working on, but we’re going to include that on next point release. I’m working on a testing environment. Once luks is working, I’ll tell you if you wish to test it before next point release.
Best regards!
Bruno.
Hi @Kadarin70 , hope you’re doing well. I’ve an update on this. We have made many changes on calamares and, of course, we’ve developed a new script for complex LVM setup, because calamares crashes in this kind of setup.
So, the new features will alow you to do the following things:
Setup a luks partition without lvm directly from Calamares (LUKS v1)
Using synex-lvm-setup you can:
- Configure entirely LVM environment. The script will autodetect if you’re using bios legacy or UEFI
- Define volume mountpoints with his size and FS (XFS or ext4 managed individually. e.g, You can use ext4 for root and xfs for home)
- Enable LUKS v2 encryption
- Automatic setup for additional partitions in order to work properly between LUKS2 and LVM. So, synex-lvm-setup will create boot partition in ext4 format and efi partition in fat32.
After that, and following instructions at the end of the script, you only need to set mount points without formatting from Calamares.
We’re uploading new ISO images in these days so you can download and test it! Of course, as we always says, feedback is welcome!
Best regards.
Bruno.
